About this Event
This event is in collaboration with Building Culture CIC and the Whoseburn? project.
Few places anywhere have undergone such a seismic transformation as the Ouseburn has over the last few decades: from a largely abandoned post-industrial cityscape to a thriving arts community and site of increasing housing development.
In this event, we reflect on that process and look to the future, exploring the challenges around responsible and inclusive development – or otherwise – and the spectre of gentrification. We'll hear from people who are already part of it, those who inspire us, and those who can offer tangible perspectives that could be incorporated into future efforts.
This discussion will be an intersection of the hyper-local, looking at Ouseburn and connected neighbourhoods in the East end and drawing in ideas from parallel projects from the wider North East region. The invited panel will present perspectives on themes of gentrification, commons, approaches to development, habitat and ecology.
