In 1897, Paul Gauguin gave one of his paintings a title made up of three questions: “Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?” Almost 130 years later, these questions remain no less relevant, yet the very idea that they might have definite answers seems increasingly uncertain.
The programme brings together three video artists — Ji Su Kang-Gatto, Juhyun Cho and Arnaud Dezoteux. None of them offers answers. Instead, each raises questions about origins, belonging, direction, and the place of the human being in the surrounding world.

WHERE DO WE COME FROM?

In *Identities and Recipes*, Ji Su Kang-Gatto, born in Seoul and raised in Germany, explores her own identity by preparing traditional Korean dishes in the familiar format of YouTube cooking tutorials. Cooking becomes a way of reconnecting with and reclaiming her cultural origins.

WHAT ARE WE?

In his work, Arnaud Dezoteux places drawn and computer-animated animals into spaces emptied of human presence — spaces originally created by humans for humans. Gradually, the animals begin to appear as their natural inhabitants, while the human presence becomes increasingly ghost-like. The boundaries between who is at home, who is an observer, and who is an outsider become ever less clear.

WHERE ARE WE GOING?

Juhyun Cho’s *Flight to Nowhere* is based on the real practice of “flights to nowhere” that emerged during the pandemic: an aircraft takes off without a destination and returns to the very place it departed from. Movement continues, but no longer means approaching any particular point. The question “Where are we going?” receives an almost literal — and at the same time absurd — answer: nowhere.
