About this Event
In a world filled with constant distractions, our hearts can easily become heedless.
Yet sometimes, a single tear can awaken what has become distant.
Join us for a reflective spiritual session exploring the beauty of tears shed from khashyah, awe and fear of Allah, and how humility, repentance, remembrance and longing for His mercy can soften and awaken the heart.
Drawing upon the spiritual teachings of Imam ʿAbdullah ibn ʿAlawī al-Ḥaddad in Nasā’ih al-Dīniyyah, we will reflect upon what it means to cultivate a heart that is sincere, conscious of Allah, and mindful of its eventual return to Him.
“And they fall upon their faces weeping, and it increases them in humility.”
Sūrah al-Isrāʾ, 17:109
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“There are two eyes that shall not be touched by the Fire: an eye that wept from the fear of Allah, and an eye that spent the night standing guard in the cause of Allah.”
Jāmiʿ al-Tirmidhī, 1639
A Heart That Remembers
This session invites us to look beyond tears as an emotional response and to discover what they may reveal about a heart that is awake to Allah.
Through dhikr, muḥāsabah, sincere worship and reflection upon the Hereafter, we will explore how to:
- Soften and awaken the heart
- Strengthen our awareness of Allah
- Reflect upon our intentions and deeds
- Remember the Hereafter and our return to Allah
- Cultivate humility, repentance and sincere devotion
- Develop moments of daily reflection amidst the distractions of life
Perhaps the greatest question is not simply, “When will we cry?”
But rather:
“Is our heart still alive enough to be moved by Allah?”
An Invitation to Return
When Tears Become Our Shield is an invitation to pause, reflect and return to Allah.
To remember Him before we are forgotten.
To turn back before we are called back.
And to nurture a heart whose tears, by the mercy of Allah, may become a means of protection and salvation in the Hereafter.
May Allah grant us hearts that are soft with His remembrance, sincere in worship, humble before Him, and longing to meet Him.
O Allah, grant us humble hearts, tearful eyes and tranquil souls, and make us among those who attain Your nearness and pleasure.
