About this Event
What We Carry, What We Change is a participatory workshop inviting Houstonians to explore the patterns, stories, and expectations they carry and practice one small, realistic pivot toward the life and belonging they want.
Workshop designed and facilitated by Dr. Quỳnh-Hương N. Nguyễn of Patterns Pivot for Homelands Festival.
What happens when we pause long enough to notice the patterns we carry with us? What We Carry, What We Change is a participatory workshop exploring the stories, expectations, coping strategies, and survival patterns we've inherited or developed through family, culture, migration, relationships, and community. Through accessible reflection activities, conversation, and creative mapping, participants will move through four simple steps. Recognize, Understand, Choose, and Practice. To identify one pattern they want to understand more deeply, and one small, realistic shift to carry forward.
This workshop is facilitated by Dr. Quỳnh-Hương N. Nguyễn, founder of Patterns Pivot, a Houston-based life coaching practice for neurodivergent adults and people navigating identity, cultural expectations, and family pressure. If this workshop resonates, Patterns Pivot offers ongoing 1:1 coaching, group programs, and community workshops using the same framework explored here today learn more at patternspivot.com or find @patternspivot on Instagram.
No prior experience is needed, people from all backgrounds are welcome, and there's no expectation to "fix" yourself or leave with a perfect answer—just a new way of seeing yourself and the communities you belong to.
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
Dr. Quỳnh-Hương N. Nguyễn is the founder of Patterns Pivot, a life coaching practice supporting neurodivergent adults and people navigating identity, cultural expectations, and family pressure. Using her own framework, Recognize, Understand, Pivot, Practice, she helps clients name the survival patterns shaping their lives, understand what those patterns protect them from, and choose small, sustainable shifts instead of forcing total overhauls. Her work spans 1:1 coaching, group programs, and community workshops, always grounded in cultural and neurodivergent context rather than generic, one-size-fits-all frameworks.
Dr. Nguyễn holds an M.Ed., M.A., and Ph.D., and brings nearly a decade of speaking and facilitation experience centered on identity, equity, and mental health including conference presentations, panels, and community workshops across Texas and beyond. She is a queer, second-generation Vietnamese American woman, and much of her work is grounded in her own journey of unlearning inherited patterns of overwork, people-pleasing, and chasing others' definitions of success.

ABOUT HOMELANDS FESTIVAL
Homelands is a week-long celebration of the many stories, traditions, and relationships that connect us to one another. Taking place across Houston October 17 - 24, 2026, the festival brings together artists, neighbors, and families to explore what we carry with us, what we inherit, and how we create a sense of home together.
Homelands was created to honor these inheritances and to make space for the many ways people build connection. Through art, music, food, storytelling, workshops, and collective gatherings, Homelands invites us to honor home not only as a place we come from, but something we build together.
