What Is Pittsburgh’s Brand — and Who Gets to Shape Its Future?
A conversation about Pittsburgh’s future with the generation that will inherit it.
Past Grapevine events have brought together leaders from business, government, education, nonprofits and the arts to explore Pittsburgh’s identity and future. This year, we’re bringing a new generation into the conversation.
Outstanding high school students will join prominent Pittsburgh civic, business, academic and community leaders for a series of moderated discussions exploring the opportunities and challenges that will shape our region’s future.
Together, they’ll tackle topics/questions such as:
- Safety: Can I move safely through my city with confidence?
- Opportunity: Can I build a future here?
- Belonging: Do I feel like I have a place here?
- Learning: Am I being prepped for the future?
- Mental Health & Well-Being: Do I have thge support to navigate it?
A Different Kind of Conversation
In partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania, Grapevine will bring together teams of civic-minded high school students and established community leaders for approximately five moderated conversations.
Each discussion will begin with a leader sharing their perspective on a particular issue. Students will then have the opportunity to ask questions, challenge assumptions, share their own experiences and explore new ideas.
The goal isn't to determine winners or losers. It's to demonstrate how respectful dialogue, curiosity and different perspectives can lead to a stronger community.

Young people bring fresh perspectives, new expectations and ideas about what makes a city welcoming, innovative and full of opportunity. Their voices are essential to building a region where future generations choose to stay, lead and thrive.
