About this Event

STORIES WE PLAY

An interactive Stories We Carry gathering about imagination, memory, mischief & the stories hiding in ordinary things

What if a story could begin anywhere?

In an old photograph.
A curious little object.
A question no one has ever thought to ask you.
A memory you thought you'd lost.
Or a completely made-up adventure that somehow starts to feel true.

This month, Stories We Carry invites you to simply play.

We'll gather around questions, objects, memories, and a generous dash of imagination — and see what stories wander out when we stop worrying about getting them "right." Invent a tale from a mystery object. Add a mischievous twist to someone else's story. Discover a memory tucked inside the most ordinary thing. Or dream up something brand new with a small circle of fellow storytellers.

No storytelling experience required. Just curiosity, imagination, a willingness to play!

Some stories will be true.
Some will be invented.
Some will start as one and wander off into another.

Come with your children. Come with your parents. Come with a friend. Come by yourself. Bring your memories, your imagination, your sense of humor — and let's see where the stories take us.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Everyone.

This is a joyfully intergenerational gathering — children, parents, grandparents, teens, adults, friends, families, and curious humans of every age are welcome.

You do not need to consider yourself a storyteller.
You do not need to prepare anything in advance.
You simply need to be willing to listen, imagine, share, invent, laugh — and maybe see something familiar in a whole new light.

WHEN & WHERE

Tuesday, October 13, 2026

Aina Haina Public Library

WHAT TO BRING

Bring yourself. That's the important part.

And if you'd like, bring along:

  • An ordinary object with an extraordinary story behind it
  • A photograph
  • A small keepsake
  • Something mysterious, curious, funny, beautiful — or wonderfully unremarkable
  • A favorite childhood treasure
  • An object you've had forever but never quite thought about
  • Your favorite story starter
  • Your imagination (the one thing you can't forget to pack)

You're welcome to bring an object to share — but you absolutely don't have to. We'll have plenty of stories, questions, and surprises waiting for you.

COME PLAY WITH US.

Because sometimes the best stories are the ones we never planned to tell.
