Entrepreneurship Live: Pride in Kaimukī
In honor of Hawaiʻi Pride Month, PACE (Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa's Shidler College of Business is partnering with Keep It Kaimukī for a special panel celebrating LGBTQ+-owned businesses in Kaimukī.
Kaimukī has long been known for its eclectic mix of independent shops, and this event brings two of its standout entrepreneurs together for a candid conversation about building a business, building community, and doing both as members of Hawaiʻi's LGBTQ+ community.
Meet the panelists:
Jordan Lee opened urban pet store The Public Pet in 2016 and created Keep It Kaimukī to highlight his neighborhood’s small business ecosystem. His work focuses on grassroots collaboration, bringing local business owners together to strengthen community connections.
Andrew Mau is the owner of ISLANDBOY-SHOP, a curated retailer tucked into Kaimukī offering everything from apothecary items and stationery to home essentials and luxury leather goods. A furniture designer turned shop owner and floral enthusiast, Andrew champions small-batch, intentionally made goods — from local brands like Tofu Skin and Salty Girl Jewelry to global finds exclusive to Honolulu, plus in-house florals and lei that reflect Hawaiʻi's gift-giving traditions.
