Join Hindpal Singh Bhui for a compelling and insightful discussion exploring the purpose, challenges and future of modern prisons, based on his recent book What Are Prisons For?
Drawing on decades of frontline experience, Hindpal Singh Bhui examines how prisons function today, what they are expected to achieve, and how they might be reimagined to better serve society.
Currently leading inspections of prisons and immigration detention at HM Inspectorate of Prisons, and serving as a Visiting Law Professor at the University of Oxford, Bhui is one of the UK’s most respected voices on criminal justice reform. A former probation officer and award‑winning practitioner, he has worked extensively on international prison reform projects and published widely on prisons, probation and immigration detention.
This thought‑provoking event offers a rare opportunity to hear from someone who has spent his career inside the system — observing, questioning and working to improve the institutions that shape so many lives.
Join Hindpal Singh Bhui at the Georgian Theatre Royal for an evening of rigorous insight and informed debate.
