Our next slam is an excuse to dress up with a prize for best dressed, the Western Sydney launch of Troy Wong's debut poetry collection Three Durians, AND poets can be accompanied on double bass by Serenade for some extra vibes. Get ready for a truly haunting evening 👻
ABOUT:
West Side Poetry Slam is a monthly open mic night where you can sign up on the night and perform an original piece of writing to open minds, hearts, and arms. Audience members score with a fun line of feedback and you could win a support feature slot at the next slam. Other performance art forms are also welcome. Anything can be poetry.
FEATURE - Troy Wong
Troy Wong is an Australian poet born to Singaporean parents. His poems, written on unceded Dharug and Gadigal land, have appeared in Antipodes, Australian Book Review, Australian Poetry Journal, Griffith Review, The Guardian, and elsewhere. He was shortlisted in the 2026 Gwen Harwood Poetry Prize and won the 2025 Nomad Review Poetry Prize. Off the page and on the stage, he is the founder and creative director of Bread & Butter Poetry Slam, the Inner West's biggest monthly poetry event. His debut full-length poetry collection, Three Durians (Cordite, 2026) is out now.

SUPPORT FEATURE - Sarah Scorze
Sarah Scorzè is a queer poet and writer, a failed academic, unproductive painter, occasional public speaker, and sometime musician. Being a trans woman, their written work often explores themes of identity, transformation, love, gender and the complexities of a lengthy lived experience. She writes mostly to make sense of herself, her journey and her relationship with the external world. Many of Scorzè's poems, essays and stories draw on the ongoing experience of transition. Others draw on the natural world, family, self and relationships. Scorzè also writes queer romantic fiction, and has published a small volume of short stories entitled, The Girl and The Garden. More recently, she was amazed and delighted to be awarded Writer of the Month in Catharsis Chronicles for poetry and Top Writer in The Lark for June.
ACCOMPANIST - Serenade
Serenade is a bassist, vocalist, composer, and producer who makes music to eat the rich to as Bonesaw Serenade. Their first ever paid bass gig was as a two piece with a spoken word performer, and they delight in matching the cadence and vibe of a good poem.
They learned to improvise on stage by getting up to play with much better jazz musicians, all of whom are still better jazz musicians. They also love tea.
