About this Event
The Weekly Chinese Brush Painting Studio is an in-person class for adults who want to learn and develop genuine skills in Chinese brush painting through regular practices in a calm studio group setting.
A self-paced painting studio
Paint what you want, at your own pace, with a teacher on hand. There is no set theme or rush. You can work on a painting assigned by the teacher tailored to your skills, or bring your own unfinished painting to receive guidance while completing. The teacher teaches a range of painting subjects: floral, birds, animals, plants, fruits, people and landscape, as well as both Xieyi (寫意) and Gongbi (工筆) styles.
Who is this for
This studio is for participants who wish to develop a regular hobby and progress with their skills, so that you could start to enjoy painting independently at anytime. Painters of any level is welcomed.
Tailored guidance in a group setting
The teacher moves between painters, offering demonstrations and feedback tailored to what each person is working on. Beginners and experienced painters share the studio comfortably, with no one waiting for others to catch up. A studio group setting is the best way to grow your taste as you observe others' work at the same time.
The way to become an independent hobbyist / painter : Regular practice, quiet company
Returning week after week lets you build this hobby to become something of your own, and gradually you grow your knowledge and appreciations on the deeper beauty of this art.
The Cafe
We will sit in a quiet environment with high ceiling and natural lighting. Beverages and snacks can be bought from the Curzon Café bar on the upper floor, so you can always make this class even more relaxed and settled with a coffee or tea while you paint.
One pass, two venues
Sessions bought as a bundle (e.g. the 4-session pass) can be used at both the Weekly Studio at Curzon and the Monthly themed Club at Cass Art Kingston, so you can mix and match to suit your week. Just let Jasmine know which sessions you’re coming to.
