WED AM - Salt, Sea & Sky: Painting Without a Brush: Level 3 with Peter

In this abstract acrylic seascape class, you’ll learn how to transform ocean photographs and coastal inspiration into loose, expressive paintings using layering, texture, and palette knife techniques.
What You’ll Learn:

• various techniques for layering using a palette knife to promote mood, depth, and complexity.
• about specific paint and medium types to promote layering.
• how to create interpretive bodies of water, rocks, and shorelines.
• about analyzing a reference photo for the purpose of transforming into a loose, expressive painting.

Students will walk away with at least one completed painting and a new approach to capturing the coast through paint.

You’ll also gain experience with palette knives, acrylic mediums, layering, and photographic references—giving you practical techniques for creating expressive ocean, beach, and shoreline paintings on your own.

Supply List for Students to Bring:

This is a studio class and students will be using their supplies on the first week.

• 2 canvases or wood panels (at least 24")
• variety of acrylic paints and mediums you already have (will discuss more on Week 1)
• variety of acrylic brushes (to be used minimally and for details)
• palette knife
• palette paper
• rags or quality paper towels like Viva or Blue Shop
• minimum of 3 reference photos to work from
