The Battle of Molech: The Preceptory Line

A Horus Heresy narrative event at JustPlay Liverpool

Date: Saturday 5 December 2026
Time: 10:00am-6:00pm
Ticket price: £25
Allegiance: Loyalist or Traitor
Army size: 3,000 points, plus up to 5 Battlefield Asset Points

Please purchase the ticket for your preferred allegiance.

The Setting

Molech is an Imperial world like any other: colonised during the Dark Age of Technology and reclaimed from Old Night by the Emperor himself.

Guarded by honourable Knightly Houses, hosts of Solar Auxilia and representatives from at least four Legions, there is no more formidable fortress world in the Segmentum.

But something stirs beneath its gilded facade: a warp-borne secret, the gateway to everything the Emperor required and the Warmaster desires...

The fleet has shattered. The Traitors have landed. Rumours persist of corrupt, empyreal entities running rampant. All that stands between them and the mass of Imperial citizenry is the thinly guarded Preceptory Line.

The Speartip thrust is about to strike.

Event Format

This is a one-day narrative event comprising two bespoke, story-driven missions, pitching the Traitor Legions and their allies against the Loyalist defenders.

The missions favour a combination of armour and infantry, representing the Warmaster's Speartip assault forces and the Defenders of Molech. Line remains important but will not be a key multiplier. As Molech is a Knight World, special rules and conditions concerning Knights will also apply.

This is not a competitive event. Armies should be built with narrative character rather than maximum competitive efficiency.

Initial games will be played against randomly selected opponents from the opposing allegiance. Results and army composition will influence subsequent match-ups. Every game will affect the final round and help determine which allegiance wins the day.

There are no individual awards for scoring the most Victory Points. However, unusual achievements and memorable moments may be rewarded.

Army Lists and Submission

Players must bring:

  • A 3,000-point army matching the allegiance on their ticket
  • Up to 5 Battlefield Asset Points
  • One printed copy of their army list

Lists must be submitted by Friday 27 November 2026 to allow time for vetting and feedback. Earlier submissions are welcome.

Send army lists and questions to [email protected], or post them in the JustPlay Horus Heresy WhatsApp group.

Event Schedule

The schedule is approximate. If games finish earlier than expected, the lunch break may begin sooner. The final round will end no later than 6:00pm.

  • 10:00am: Doors open and registration
  • 10:30am: Round 1 begins
  • 1:30pm: Lunch and placement of Rule of Cool entries
  • 2:00pm: Round 2 begins
  • 6:00pm: Event ends, narrative epilogue and presentations

Tickets and Refunds

Tickets cost £25 and are available through Eventbrite.

Please select either a Loyalist or Traitor ticket when booking.

The refund deadline is Friday 27 November 2026.

Prizes and Recognition

Glory for the Emperor or Warmaster is all that truly matters - but we all enjoy a little personal glory.

Members of the winning allegiance will receive the coveted WYSIWYG Winners Certificate.

The Most Honoured Loyalist and Most Honoured Traitor will also be recognised. These awards will consider:

  • Favourite Opponent votes
  • Game victories
  • Rule of Cool votes

Rule of Cool Competition: Best Command Model

The Battle of Molech was one of the last true battles fought using the Principia Belicosa of the Great Crusade. Line commanders, Centurions and Consuls, Mechanicum Magi and Solar Auxilia Captains led from the front.

Each player may display one miniature with the Command Battlefield Role, as described on page 176 of the Core Rulebook. Conversions and creative modelling are encouraged.

For Knight Households, this category also includes a Knight with the Seneschal Prime Advantage.

Painting and Modelling Requirements

All models must be:

  • Fully assembled
  • Painted to a tabletop standard of at least three colours
  • Fully based, where the model has a base

Army-Building Rules

Build a narrative force designed to provide an enjoyable game. Lists created primarily to overwhelm opponents are not appropriate for this event.

All units and rules from official Warhammer publications are permitted, including Legacy PDFs and Journals.

The following event restrictions apply:

  • Lords of War and Warlord Detachments may be selected within the usual 25% points limit.
  • Titan Ordinal Primary Detachments are permitted. Players using one may be assigned an Engine K*ll mission instead of the standard event scenario where necessary.
  • Primarchs and Unique Units are permitted. The fog of war and the mists of time mean that official accounts of these legendary events are not always accurate.
  • Battlefield Assets are encouraged. Each player has up to 5 Asset Points.
  • Loyalists may select only Defender Assets.
  • Traitors may select only Attacker Assets.
  • Knight Households, particularly those of a more serpentine persuasion, may have access to both.
  • Cohorts Vagus Detachments are limited to one per player. No more than three slots may be filled, in any combination permitted by the detachment. Existing slot restrictions continue to apply.

Battlefield Asset rules can be found in the Journal Tacticas, Mailed Fist and The Dropsite Massacre. Information is also available through New Recruit.

All lists will be vetted to help ensure an enjoyable experience. Seeker spam, excessive Tarantulas, heavy use of Havoc Launchers and similar choices are discouraged. Feedback may be provided during list review.

What to Bring

Please bring:

  • Your army
  • One printed copy of your main army list
  • The Core Rulebook and relevant Liber books or expansions
  • Copies of any Warhammer Community PDFs you are using
  • Dice, templates, a measuring device and a pen
  • Any useful gaming tokens
  • A friendly attitude and a desire to have fun

Event House Rules
Line Sub-Phase

A new Line Sub-Phase takes place at the end of the Start Phase.

The Line (X) and Comptroller (X) Special Rules use the following replacement rule:

If a unit containing a model with this Special Rule controls an objective during the controlling player's Line Sub-Phase, that player gains X Victory Points. The value of X is also added to the Tactical Strength of a model with this Special Rule.

If models with different versions of this Special Rule are part of the same unit, the values do not stack. Use only the highest value.

Credit to Goonhammer for this rule change.

Wound Allocation

When a wound is allocated to a model with the Paragon, Command or Specialist Type or Sub-type that has joined a unit, that model may make saving throws a number of times up to its Initiative value, and no more.

Any remaining saving throws must be allocated to the unit until only the joined model remains or all attacks have been saved.

This limit applies once per attack and resets whenever the unit is attacked again during any phase. It does not apply while the model is participating in a Challenge.

Vanguard - Page 339

A unit scores the listed Vanguard (X) points for fulfilling either Vanguard condition only if the Destroyed, Massacred or Falling Back unit began that phase controlling or contesting an Objective Marker.

Wrecked Vehicles - Page 221

Vehicles that do not suffer a successful Explodes result remain on the battlefield in accordance with the Wreck rule.

Models with the Knight Sub-type are an exception and must be removed from the battlefield.

Terrain - Page 235

The following terrain rules apply at this event. Credit to SN+ for these house rules.

  • Vehicles: A vehicle benefits from terrain rules only when more than 50% of the model is on or within the terrain feature.
  • Barricades and scatter terrain: A model behind and in base contact with a barricade or piece of scatter terrain gains a 6+ Cover Save when line of sight is drawn across it.
  • Light Terrain: Models wholly within Light Terrain gain a 6+ Cover Save.
  • Medium Terrain: Models wholly within Medium Terrain gain a 5+ Cover Save.
  • Heavy Terrain: Models wholly within Heavy Terrain gain a 4+ Cover Save. A unit may draw line of sight through Heavy Terrain only if it has at least one model wholly within that terrain. A unit cannot be seen through Heavy Terrain unless it has at least one model wholly within it.

Please see the SN+ social media channels for example diagrams.
