🍂Ward Lake Nature Reserve closes out a long hot summer and prepares for winter.‼️ EVENT IS FULL! ‼️
🐿️☀️Join Gerry Racey and Michelle Sixsmith (co-stewards) on October 17, 2026 for a ramble into Ward Lake and the nearby unnamed lake. The leaves will be off the trees and the forest will be shrugging off the vestiges of summer settling in for the winter. It’s a great time of year to appreciate the dynamics of the forest, from the canopy to the forest floor and along shorelines. We will encourage and promote reflection on all manner of “interesting things”. 🌲🍄🟫
❗Registration Required! ❗
🗺️We will be walking into Ward Lake following the southern trail (an old logging road road) off Sturgeon Bay Road. This is a day-long hike; 2 km walk into the Reserve along the south trail, 1-2 km of local wandering, with total walking for the day being about 7 km. Exploration of forested and shrubby habitats will require navigation of some blowdown and woody debris. Other than the main access, there are no pre-established trails to follow. Be prepared for a moderately difficult hike. A high level of physical exertion can be expected in some segments. Some wet terrain on the trail and in the forest and shoreline will be traversed. Sturdy and warm hiking footwear is strongly recommended. Dress appropriate for weather conditions and terrain. 🥾🧣
