In July 1863, Gettysburg had a population of 2,000 and was inundated with over 160,000 Union and Confederate soldiers. The largest battle of the war ravaged the town, leaving behind thousands of dead, farmlands turned red, and homes destroyed. This presentation focuses on aspects of the battle not normally discussed, which is the civilian experience and the aftermath of battle. Learn about the burying of bodies, establishment of the National Cemetery, and the events leading to Lincoln's famous address. Due to graphic images and descriptions of the deceased, viewer discretion is advised.
