About DAOU Vineyards
High on what's now known as DAOU Mountain, in Paso Robles' Adelaida District, brothers Georges and Daniel Daou restored a redwood winery first built in the early 1970s by Dr. Stanley Hoffman, one of the region's pioneering vintners — the hillside building now serves as their barrel room, stacked floor to ceiling with ageing estate barrels. From that restored foundation, the Daou brothers set out to make wine that's both approachable and genuinely aspirational, built around Cabernet Sauvignon-driven reds that have helped put Paso Robles on the map as serious Cabernet Country, alongside Napa and Bordeaux.
This masterclass walks through five wines spanning the DAOU range — from the easy-drinking Bodyguard Chardonnay and Red, through to the estate's reserve-tier whites and reds, finishing with Soul of a Lion, the house's flagship expression. A good one for anyone curious what the fuss around Paso Robles Cabernet is actually about.
