Brussels-based gallerist and cultural producer Harlan Levey reflects on more than two decades of experience.
About this Event

Drawing on more than two decades of experience as a gallerist and cultural producer, Harlan Levey will reflect on the often unstated conditions that shape the contemporary art ecosystem. The talk considers the relationships between artists, galleries, institutions, space, and the market, while tracing how historical artistic and curatorial models continue to operate in the present. Through projects including Chambre d’Amis, collaborations across art and science, and recent work engaging questions of liberalism and geopolitics, Levey will explore how galleries can function not only as commercial spaces, but as infrastructures for artistic, curatorial, scientific, and political inquiry.

Speaker Bio:

Harlan Levey is a Cleveland-born, Brussels-based gallerist, curator, and arts worker. His career began in publishing and independent cultural production, including as editor-in-chief of Modart Magazine and co-founder of the cross-disciplinary No New Enemies network. In 2013, he co-founded Harlan Levey Projects with Winnie Kwok, developing a gallery program centered on conceptual and research-based practices and long-term relationships with artists. His activities extend to curatorial and research initiatives including Chambre d’Amis and Fundamental Research. Levey has taught and lectured at institutions including HISK and the Jan van Eyck Academie, and has served as an expert for the European Commission’s S+T+ARTS program and in advisory roles with Brussels Gallery Weekend and Art Brussels.
