Event Overview: Join fellow sketchers for a late-autumn sketch crawl through Highbanks Metro Park. We will meet at the Everett H. Kruger Nature Center. This is a great opportunity to document local history, autumn landscapes, indoor museum exhibits, and park architecture on location.
Key features and exhibits to explore or use as sketching subjects include:
Walk-In Sycamore Tree: Step-inside hollow tree installation.
Geology & Ravine Wall: Displays of local shale, stream concretions, and glacial history.
Live Wildlife & Bird Window: Terrariums with Ohio reptiles, aquariums, and a woodland bird viewing library.
Observation Deck: Covered back porch with rocking chairs overlooking the forest ravine.
Indoor Option: Sketch inside the Everett H. Kruger Nature Center (hollow sycamore tree exhibit, timber interiors, or live animal displays).
Outdoor Option: Timber-frame shelters, ravine bridges, overlooks along the winding creek, or the Adena Cultural Mound area.
Parking Information: Free parking!
Primary Lot (Nature Center): Located directly adjacent to the Everett H. Kruger Nature Center. Enter through the main park entrance off US Rt 23 N (9466 Columbus Pike) and follow the main park drive straight toward the Nature Center.
Overflow Parking (Oak Cleft Shelter Area): If the immediate Nature Center lot fills up during busy weekend afternoon hours, turn right onto the park road loop to access the Oak Cleft Picnic Area parking lots. These lots are connected to the Nature Center by short, paved, accessible footpaths.
