About this Event
Join the Institute of the Americas for a discussion and analysis of the 2026 US Midterm Elections. Nadia Hilliard (UCL), Andrew Proctor (UCL), and Richard Saich (UCL) will offer a panel discussion of the results and their implications for the future of US and global politics. Held after election day, the panel will assess what the results tell us about the current state of American democracy, the balance of power in Washington, and the road ahead to the 2028 US presidential election.
Panel:
Nadia Hilliard is a Lecturer in US Politics at UCL’s Institute of the Americas. Her research interests include American Political Development; accountability in theory and practice; public administration; and fraternity as a political concept.
Andrew Proctor is a Lecturer of US Politics in the Institute of the Americas at UCL. His research examines how the members of marginalized groups interact with the political system in the United States. Broadly, his work touches on democratic representation, political participation, and the ways in which race, sexuality, and gender shape US politics. His next book project will explore how changing ideas about gender and sexuality intersect with processes of democratic backsliding. Previously, he held appointments at the University of Chicago and Wake Forest University. He received his PhD from the Department of Politics at Princeton University.
Richard Saich is currently a Lecturer in US History at the UCL Institute for the Americas. He completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge in 2023, and before he came to UCL he was Fellow in the History of US Foreign Relations at the London School of Economics. He is currently completing his first book, titled Roads to Seattle: Globalization and the Politics of Dissent in the United States and the World, 1973-2000.
