TENNESSEE UNARMED SECURITY GUARD TRAINING

Course Hours: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM Required Training: 4 Hours Course Type: Tennessee Unarmed Security Guard Initial Training Testing: Required
COURSE OVERVIEW:

This course is designed for individuals seeking to obtain their Tennessee Unarmed Security Guard Registration
The course meets the Tennessee Private Protective Services minimum four-hour general training requirement and provides instruction in the four required subject areas:

1. Orientation

2. Legal Powers and Limitations of a Security Guard/Officer 3. Emergency Procedures 4. General Duties of a Security Guard/Officer

Students will also complete a required examination at the conclusion of the training.

Our curriculum is designed to exceed the minimum state training expectations by providing additional practical instruction, discussion, examples, and real-world security applications intended to better prepare students for employment in the private security industry.

COURSE SCHEDULE:

8:00 AM – 8:30 AM

Student Check In & Course Orientation

Students will:

- Check in and verify registration information

- Review course requirements

- Receive course materials

- Review attendance requirements- Receive instructions for completing the course

- Prepare for the day's examination and documentation process

8:30 AM – 9:30 Am

Module 1 — ORIENTATION

Topics include:

- Introduction to the private security profession

- Role and responsibilities of a security officer

- Professional conduct and appearance- Security officer authority and responsibilities

- Employer/client relationships

- Post orders and following assigned duties

- Communication and professionalism

- Documentation and reporting

- Ethics and professional standards- Basic security terminology- Security officer safety and situational awareness

9:30 AM – 10:30 Am

Module 2 — LEGAL POWERS & LIMITATIONS

Topics include:

- Authority of a private security officer

- Limitations of security officer authority

- Private security versus law enforcement

- Trespassing and removal from property

- Detention and citizen's arrest considerations

- Use-of-force considerations

- Reasonable and unreasonable force

- Constitutional considerations applicable to private security

- Avoiding unlawful searches and seizures

- Property rights

- Liability and civil consequences

- Documentation and reporting of incidents

10:30 AM – 11:30 AM

MODULE 3 — EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

Topics include:

- Emergency response responsibilities

- Fire and evacuation procedures

- Medical emergencies

- Suspicious persons and suspicious activity

- Active threats and violent incidents

- Workplace emergencies

- Severe weather

- Emergency communications

- Calling 911 and requesting emergency services

- Scene preservation

- Officer safety during emergencies

- Incident documentation

- Coordination with responding law enforcement and emergency personnel

11:30 AM – 12:30 PM

MODULE 4 — GENERAL DUTIES

Topics include:

- Access control

- Patrol procedures

- Observation and surveillance

- Crime prevention

- Security checks

- Alarm response

- Visitor and employee control

- Key and access control

- Property protection

- Report writing

- Daily activity reports

- Incident reports

- Maintaining professional conduct

- Communication with supervisors and clients

- Recognizing and reporting suspicious activity

12:30 PM – 1:00 PM

BREAK / LUNCH

1:00 PM – 2:00 PM

ENHANCED PRACTICAL SECURITY INSTRUCTION

Additional instruction beyond the minimum four-hour state curriculum may include:

- Situational awareness

- Threat recognition

- De-escalation concepts

- Professional communication

- Conflict management

- Observation skills

- Security decision-making

- Practical security scenarios

- Incident response considerations

- Report-writing exercises

- Real-world security officer situations

This additional instruction is intended to exceed the minimum state curriculum and provide students with practical knowledge applicable to actual security assignments.

2:00 PM – 2:30 PM

REQUIRED COURSE EXAMINATION

Students will complete the required examination covering the material presented during the course.Students must satisfy the course examination requirements before receiving course completion documentation.

2:30 PM – 3:00 PM

TENNESSEE REGISTRATION APPLICATION ASSISTANCE

Following completion of the required training and examination, instructors/staff will assist students with the Tennessee security guard registration process.

Assistance may include:

- Reviewing required documentation

- Assisting students with the Tennessee application process

- Helping students upload required documentation

- Reviewing application information for completeness

- Providing general guidance concerning the registration process

- Explaining fingerprinting/background-check requirements

- Explaining remaining steps necessary to complete the registration process

IMPORTANT — STATE FEES

Students are responsible for all Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance fees and any other fees associated with obtaining their security guard registration.

Course tuition does not include state application fees, fingerprinting fees, registration fees, background-check costs, or other government-required fees unless specifically stated in the course registration.Students are responsible for ensuring that all required state fees are paid and that their application is properly submitted.

The current Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance information should be reviewed for applicable fees and requirements before submitting an application.

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT

Full attendance is required.

Students must attend the required training and complete the required examination to receive course credit.

Partial attendance does not constitute completion of the Tennessee-required training and will not qualify for a course completion certificate.

Students arriving late, leaving early, or missing required portions of the training may be required to make up the missed instruction before receiving course completion documentation.

STUDENT MATERIALS

Students should bring:

- Valid government-issued identification

- Pen or pencil- Paper/notebook for taking notes

- Any requested registration or identification documents

- Any additional documentation requested by the instructor

Students are strongly encouraged to take notes throughout the course.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Successful completion of this training does not automatically guarantee approval of a Tennessee security guard registration.

Students must independently satisfy all applicable Tennessee registration requirements, including eligibility, background-check/fingerprinting requirements, application requirements, and payment of applicable state fees.

The training provider may assist students with the application process; however, the student remains responsible for the accuracy and submission of their application and all required fees and documentation.

For current Tennessee requirements, students should rely on the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance, Private Protective Services program.

COURSE STANDARD

Our goal is not simply to meet the minimum four-hour requirement.

We teach beyond the minimum.

Students receive the required Tennessee curriculum supplemented with practical security concepts, real-world examples, professional expectations, situational awareness, communication, documentation, and security decision-making designed to better prepare them for actual employment in the private security industry.
