About this Event
Join us on a journey through Ukraine, discovering five distinctive wines from a country with a remarkable winemaking heritage and an extraordinary modern story to tell. From the Black Sea coast to regions whose vineyards are now living with the consequences of war, we’ll explore the places, grapes and people behind Ukrainian wine, and the determination of producers who continue to make wine despite the enormous challenges facing their country.
Across five wines, we’ll taste a range of Ukrainian styles, exploring both local specialities and international varieties that have found a unique expression in Ukrainian terroir. Along the way, we’ll share stories of the regions these wines come from, including areas suffering from Russian attacks, giving a sense of the landscapes and communities behind what is in our glasses. This is an opportunity not only to discover some fascinating and increasingly recognised wines, but also to understand the people and places that make them.
To accompany the wines, we’re delighted to be partnering with Homey Bakery, an independent Ukrainian bakery based in Woking and our local bakery supplier. They’ll be providing a selection of Ukrainian treats specially chosen to pair with the wines, bringing another taste of the country to the evening. Join us on the first Wednesday of the month for our wine discovery series: five wines, Ukrainian food and plenty of stories along the way. No previous wine knowledge is required; just bring your curiosity and appetite for adventure.
