Roll on the good times! Uber is hosting free sunset lawn bowls sessions at Middle Park Bowls Club this October, as part of the Victorian Seniors Festival. The Uber Clubhouse for Seniors is a free, two-night pop-up celebrating connection, mobility, and multi-generational fun.
From 4-7pm on Thursday 8th and Friday 9th October, the club will be transformed into Uber Clubhouse for Seniors, bringing together older Victorians and a “bowls buddy” of their choice - whether that’s a friend, family member, grandchild (aged 18 or over) or partner - to connect over Australia’s favourite multi-generational sport: lawn bowls.
Set against the backdrop of golden hour, guests will enjoy relaxed music, snacks and refreshments, plus some friendly competition on the rink. There will also be a range of prizes, Uber discount codes, a welcome drink, and goodies to take home. Entry is free but registration is required per attendee.
The initiative brings to life Uber’s ongoing efforts to help ensure older Australians remain independent, mobile, and connected to their family, friends and local community.
To make attending seamless, the event will feature a dedicated Uber drop-off and pick-up zone outside the Clubhouse, with Uber team members on hand to assist guests with booking a ride home.
Demonstrating how technology can support, rather than overwhelm, seniors in everyday life, attendees will also get a hands-on walk through of the Uber Seniors suite - a tailored collection of features designed to make modern transport accessible and stress-free for older adults:
- Simple Mode: a simpler version of the Uber app with larger text and clearer icons.
- Family Profiles: Uber Senior accounts also include access to Family Profiles where families can book, manage and pay for rides on an older person’s behalf.
- Call to ride: for riders who prefer to speak to a live agent to book their ride, call 13-UBER (13 82 37 on the keypad).
- Pickup preferences *new*: riders can now tell drivers how they’d like them to signal their arrival, such as calling or messaging at pickup, honking their horn, or flashing their lights.
- Easy entry vehicles *coming soon*: coming soon before the end of 2026, riders will soon get access to cars that have a lower step-in for a smoother entry and exit.
- Optional self-identification *new*: seniors can choose to let drivers know they’re an older adult in the app. If enabled, this information will appear in the driver app as they approach the pickup spot.
- Flexible payment options *new*: seniors can pay by card or Uber Cash, which enables riders more choice, ensuring payment methods are not a barrier to accessing reliable transport.
- Multi Purpose Taxi Program (MPTP): Victorians who are eligible can use their MPTP subsidy on Uber to save on accessible, affordable and convenient rides through the Uber app or phone line.
- Exclusive discounts: holders of Victorian Seniors Card, Seniors Business Discount Card and Victorian Carer Card are able to unlock exclusive savings on safer, more affordable rides alongside convenient meal and grocery deliveries.
While initially launched to help seniors navigate the app with the help of their families, the product has evolved further to meet the needs of older Australians who crave an experience that’s personalised and promotes independence.
