Two films. One conversation. The future of birth.
Join Californians for the Advancement of Midwifery (CAM) for a special double-feature benefit screening of Allowed to Birth: The Journey of a Global Midwife and Deliver Us—two documentaries that approach birth, midwifery, maternal health, and the possibilities for better care from distinct perspectives.
Following the films, Allowed to Birth director Jacinta Lagos and Deliver Us producer/director Randi Matthews will join us for a live conversation and audience Q&A. Additional guests will be announced as confirmed.
Doors and reception begin at 5:00 PM. The film program begins promptly at 6:30 PM.
Two films. Different lenses. A larger conversation.
Allowed to Birth follows the life and work of Kristine Lauria, exploring childbirth across cultures and questions of physiology, autonomy, trust, and maternity care.
Deliver Us follows Black midwives working within communities confronting the Black maternal health crisis and explores the possibilities of community-centered care.
Together, the films invite a larger conversation about the future of birth: the choices available to families, the people and systems that support them, and the role midwifery can play in improving maternal care.
Why CAM is bringing these films together
For nearly four decades, CAM has worked to advance midwifery in California. Today, we're entering a new chapter—strengthening the profession, building relationships and coalitions, increasing public understanding, and creating opportunities for more people to participate in shaping what comes next.
This evening is part of that work.
You don't need to be a midwife or birth professional to be part of the conversation.

This is a benefit screening for Californians for the Advancement of Midwifery. After event expenses, ticket proceeds support CAM's work to advance midwifery in California.
