About this Event
Gar do lár Mhaigh Nuad agus don Ollscoil féin atá an caisleán seo a tógadh go luath sa 13ú haois. I gcionn na haimsire ba ann a bhí ionad ceannais na nGearaltach, Iarlaí Chill Dara, a bhí ar na teaghlaigh ba chumhachtaí in Éirinn sa 15ú haois. Bhí an caisleán ar na háitribh ba mhó agus ba shaibhre a bhí ag na Gearaltaigh.
Agus éileamh mór ar an turas seo anuraidh, tá áthas orainn go mbeidh an turas treoraithe i nGaeilge á thabhairt againn arís i gcomhpháirt le OOP ar an séadchomhartha clúiteach seo de chuid Mhaigh Nuad. Beidh deis ann fosta tairbhe a bhaint as an taispeántas ríspéisiúil atá sa daingean, taispeántas faoi stair an chaisleáin agus faoin teaghlach a bhaineann leis.
Close to the centre of Maynooth town and to Maynooth University, the Castle was founded in the early thirteenth century. It became the seat of power for the Fitzgeralds, earls of Kildare, who became one of the most powerful families in Ireland during the fifteenth century. The Castle was one of the largest and richest of the Geraldine dwellings.
Given the significant interest in this event in 2025, we're delighted to partner once again with OPW, to provide a tour, in Irish of this iconic Maynooth landmark. There will also be an opportunity to explore the captivating exhibition in the keep on the history of the Castle and the family associated with it.
