Join us at Rebus Works for a special matinee show on Sunday, Sept 20th!Bryan Day is a sound artist, instrument inventor, and conceptual artist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Using scavenged electronics, repurposed mechanical components, and amplified materials, he reimagines them as constructivist sound sculptures. Since the late 1990s, he has built over a hundred sound devices ranging from amplified measuring tapes and hacked radio transceivers to electromechanical installations using magnets, hard drives, and pendulums. His recorded work spans noisy electroacoustic improvisation, droning minimalism, and audio collage, featured in projects such as Euphotic, Collision Stories, and Seeded Plain. He has performed, taught workshops, and built sound installations across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. By day, he works as a museum exhibit and software developer at the Exploratorium in San Francisco.
Erin Demastes is an experimental composer, performer, and sound artist. She uses everyday objects and hacked electronics for her installations and performances and subverts their use and perception with play and experimentation. By placing items in theatrical settings, Erin brings out the character of things we normally may not think twice about. In addition to her interest in physical materials, Erin works with instruction and interaction design in her scores, performances, and installations by balancing structured composition with improvisation and exploration. In addition to performing and building installations, Erin teaches composition and music technology classes and has taught at Tulane University, Louisiana State University, California Institute of the Arts, and is currently an assistant professor of composition and music technology at the College of William & Mary where she established and directs the William & Mary Experimental Music & Technology Ensemble. Dylan Burchett is a musician and sound artist. His work explores the formal development of sounds produced by everyday actions and the sonic tendencies of common objects. These experiments often stretch the unspoken rules inherent to particular methods of musical and artistic production to their furthest points, with the goal of drawing attention to the ways by which our non-aural expectations shape our reception of sound-based work.
