About this Event

*PLEASE NOTE *

  • These sessions are not for those looking to get into acting, but for those already working in the industry. For acting technique classes, book onto one of our other workshops.
  • The space has a strict no heels policy due to the flooring.
  • The workshops are for adults over the age of 18.
  • The workshops are a safe, professional space for creatives to work. There will be no tolerance of any behaviour that doesn't fit into a healthy, open, focused, supportive way of working.

These new sessions offer a supportive atmosphere for actors to grow as artists in a professional, focused space, working with directors one-on-one

Morning Session (10:30-13:30)
SHAKESPEARE; MAKING IT PERSONAL : Zoë Templeman-Young

This workshops aims to break down the barriers around performing Shakespeare, making the text active and accessible - and most importantly, personal. Get ready to stretch yourself, body and brain. We'll use LABAN, actioning, imaginative circumstances, image painting and more to unlock the juice within Shakespeare's text. The focus will be on accessing truth, finding out why your characters says and does what they do, the emotional life within them, and the outside stakes that drive them.

What to bring: A SHAKESPEARE scene and a scene partner(s) or a monologue in VERSE. Please bring something you want to work on, not what you think might be interesting. This session is about having an oppinion and bringing it.

What to prepare: The text and offers. Bring ideas; your imagination. You don’t need to be fully off book, but it would help. Bring the work, then we can work.

Zoë is currently the Associate Director Twelfth Night at The Barbican (RSC Stratford & London transfer).

Having trained as an actor at RADA, she has an intimate understanding of an actor's process and a toolkit that is adapted for every actor needs.

She is also a published playwright (Take Care), as well as a visiting director at RADA, RWCMD, Rose Bruford and Drama Studio and dramaturg with Matthew Bourne's NEW ADVENTURES company. She has worked at theatres that include: Soho, Young Vic, RSC and Kiln. She has been an Associate Director at the Young Vic (Hamlet) and Riverside Studios (Interview).

Afternoon Session : 14:00-17:00
MODERN: SCENE STUDY : Lucy Morrison

Do you often feel there is nowhere to keep your skills sharp, in between jobs and high-stakes audition rooms that leave little room for play and growth? If this resonates, this is the workshop for you. Through exercises and dramaturgical exploration, we will work on scenes in pairs to spark imagination, mine the text, and refine technique. Actors are artists who need to train regularly; through the act of doing, come let your preparation meet the moment.

What to bring: Please bring a MODERN scene you’re excited to share and explore with others (no more than 7 pages, with a maximum of 3 characters). Have hard copies for others ready to share / work from rather than just having it on your phone.

What to prepare: Prepare the scene in advance, selecting the character you most identify with, and make sure you’ve got a good grasp of the scene as a whole. You don’t need to be fully off-book, but you should be familiar enough with the text to play and physicalise.
