Three multiple Grammy-winning artists reunite for a rare Trio Globo performance at Studio5
This is a very special night at Studio5. Trio Globo brings together three extraordinary musicians—Howard Levy, Eugene Friesen and Glen Velez—whose collective musical world encompasses jazz, classical, sacred and global traditions, all fueled by remarkable virtuosity and improvisational spontaneity.
Performances by Trio Globo are rare. Their last concert together was two years ago at Pittsburg State University in Kansas, and they are reuniting specifically for this one-night-only Studio5 appearance in Chicago.
Two-time Grammy winner Howard Levy is a groundbreaking harmonica virtuoso, pianist and composer, widely known for his work with Béla Fleck and the Flecktones. Four-time Grammy winner Eugene Friesen, longtime cellist with the Paul Winter Consort, has helped redefine the possibilities of the cello through improvisation and an extraordinarily wide-ranging career. Four-time Grammy winner Glen Velez, a Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame inductee, is one of the seminal figures in the modern development of frame drumming.
Together, they have created a sound entirely their own—acoustic music that crosses boundaries while retaining an unmistakable sense of lyricism, adventure and play.
“Eugene, Howard & Glen are magnificent players with distinct musical voices. Together they have a fresh new sound and offer a unique vision of the world of music.” — Dave Brubeck
With only two performances, 7:00pm and 9:00pm, this is a rare opportunity to experience Trio Globo together in the intimate setting of Studio5.
