Families are invited to celebrate Día de los Muertos and Halloween in Oakland’s Laurel District on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from noon to 3 p.m. Hosted by the Laurel District Association, this free, family-friendly community celebration will feature festive activities, creative crafts, music, games and trick-or-treating at neighborhood businesses along MacArthur Boulevard.
The festivities begin in the parking lot of Golondrina’s Mexican Grill, located at 4171 MacArthur Blvd., where families can pick up free commemorative trick-or-treat tote bags while supplies last. From there, attendees can enjoy an afternoon of Halloween entertainment and community activities designed for children and families.
Activities will include themed craft tables, grooving to Halloween classics, face painting for kids, a photo booth, lawn games on the astroturf and community altar building in recognition of Día de los Muertos, the Mexican tradition honoring loved ones who have passed away. Golondrina’s will also provide snacks for attendees and will be open for dining.
A highlight of the event is neighborhood trick-or-treating, with participating merchants along MacArthur Boulevard between 35th Avenue and High Street welcoming young visitors for Halloween treats.
Families are encouraged to make a day of their visit by exploring the Laurel District’s locally owned restaurants, shops, outdoor murals and other neighborhood attractions. Additional Halloween activities at district businesses are also planned, with details to be announced.
The annual celebration brings neighbors together for a festive afternoon that highlights the Laurel’s welcoming community spirit while encouraging families to discover the small businesses that make the district a distinctive Oakland destination.
