About this Event
T.O.Y. stands for Teacher of the Year. In a middle school outside of Tampa, Florida, teachers are finding themselves burning out with student behavior issues, district and state policies and walk throughs, and the inability to balance a normal life with that of the life of a teacher. Set in only two locations--an administration conference room and a teacher’s lounge--the play focuses on each one of these weary warriors who finds himself or herself in a nightmare of sorts--on the chopping block for their jobs. But a young substitute teacher at least offers a glimmer of hope for the future of education.
This is the third iteration of T.O.Y. in its journey of development. T.O.Y. had its NYC debut in April 2026 as a staged reading at The Reverie Room. It went on to perform a sold out run at The Tampa International Fringe Festival where it was awarded BEST SHOW AT THE COMMODORE and BEST BOX OFFICE.
