Why Attend?
Severe storms and heavy rainfall are becoming more frequent and intense across Chicago, increasing the risk of flooding, property damage, and power outages. These challenges especially affect historically underinvested communities on Chicago's South and West Sides, where aging infrastructure and inadequate drainage systems can make flooding more common.
Flooding impacts more than homes. It can disrupt transportation, employment, schools, childcare, and access to food and Medic*tion. Power outages can create additional risks, particularly for families who rely on refrigerated medications, medical equipment, or electricity for essential needs.
Module 3 of TWP will help participants understand severe weather risks and learn practical ways to protect their families, homes, and belongings. Participants will explore storm preparedness, flood prevention, emergency planning, power outage safety, and strategies for reducing damage and supporting recovery.
Together We Prepare is about giving families the knowledge, confidence, connections, and resources to take action. Whether you're creating an emergency plan, learning how to protect your home from flooding, preparing for a power outage, or connecting with neighbors, every step helps build a safer, stronger, and more resilient community.
