Reflective and inspiring brass music to remember absent friends, including the premiere of a new piece by local composer Alan Fernie. We've performed a free concert as part of the To Absent Friends festival since it launched, and we hope you'll join us once more to celebrate and remember people we love who have died.
This year's concert includes the premiere of Absent Friends, a new piece we commissioned from Alan Fernie, whose music is played by brass bands around the world. Alongside it we'll perform a selection of music that takes its inspiration from, and honours, absent friends.
The concert is at St John's Episcopal Church, our home venue in Edinburgh's West End, whose lovely acoustic makes it the perfect setting for this performance.
To Absent Friends is a Scotland-wide festival of storytelling and remembrance taking place throughout November. To see what else is happening in your area, visit www.toabsentfriends.org.uk .
----- Welcoming & relaxed. We want everyone to feel comfortable at our concerts. You're welcome to come and go, or to move or stand if you need to, and there are quieter spaces away from the main church for anyone who needs a short break. If you have any specific requirements (e.g. aisle or near-exit seating), or would like to know more about the space, please get in touch and we'll do our best to help.
