Tito Puente

Tito Puente (1923–2000), born in Spanish Harlem to Puerto Rican parents, was a legendary Latin musician known as "El Rey de los Timbales" (King of the Timbales). A pioneering bandleader, composer, and percussionist, he revolutionized mambo and Latin jazz over a 50-year career, producing over 100 albums and winning five Grammys. After serving in the Navy and studying at Juilliard, he formed his orchestra in 1948. Renowned for hits like "Oye Como Va" and "Ran Kan Kan," Puente bridged jazz with Afro-Cuban rhythms, solidifying his legacy as a titan of Latin music.
