The last few years have been transformative for Nate Amos. Between delivering breakout records both as a solo artist — under his This Is Lorelei moniker — and with his band Water From Your Eyes, sold out shows across multiple continents, to seeing some of today’s most influential artists cover his songs, the ascending songwriter has found his stride. 2024’s Box for Buddy, Box for Star was Amos’ first attempt at an intentionally written full-length solo album, tackling newfound sobriety through a roving tongue-in-cheek take on musical personas, all strained through Amos’ genre-agnostic lens.
It was a critical and word-of-mouth success, spawning a deluxe version with covers and collaborations including MJ Lenderman, Hayley Williams, Jeff Tweedy, Cameron Winter and many more. For many years, Amos’ This Is Lorelei project was known only to a close knit group of creatives in Chicago, where he relocated in his early 20s and produced hundreds of albums and EP’s, tracing the outlines for both of his prolific projects before relocating to New York. In the time since, he’s flourished as a wildly creative polymath who is equally adept at slinging heart worn hooks and eyeball-exploding art-pop.

De afgelopen jaren hebben een ingrijpende verandering teweeggebracht in het leven van Nate Amos. Van het uitbrengen van baanbrekende albums, zowel als soloartiest – onder zijn artiestennaam This Is Lorelei – als met zijn band Water From Your Eyes, en uitverkochte optredens op meerdere continenten, tot het zien hoe enkele van de meest invloedrijke artiesten van dit moment zijn nummers coveren: de opkomende songwriter heeft zijn draai gevonden. ‘Box for Buddy, Box for Star’ uit 2024 was Amos’ eerste poging tot een bewust geschreven soloalbu, waarin hij zijn pas gevonden nuchterheid verwerkte via een speelse, ironische kijk op muzikale persona’s, allemaal gefilterd door Amos’ genre-overschrijdende bril. Het werd een succes bij critici en via mond-tot-mondreclame, wat leidde tot een deluxe-versie met covers en samenwerkingen met onder meer MJ Lenderman, Hayley Williams, Jeff Tweedy, Cameron Winter en vele anderen.
Jarenlang was Amos’ project This Is Lorelei alleen bekend bij een hechte groep creatievelingen in Chicago, waar hij zich op zijn vroege twintigste vestigde en honderden albums en EP’s produceerde, waarmee hij de contouren van zijn beide productieve projecten uitstippelde voordat hij naar New York verhuisde. Sindsdien is hij uitgegroeid tot een buitengewoon creatieve duizendpoot die even bedreven is in het maken van hartverscheurende hooks als in het creëren van oogverblindende art-pop.
