In 2027 is het precies driehonderd jaar geleden dat Johann Gottlieb Goldberg werd geboren, de klavecinist aan wie de beroemde Goldbergvariaties van Johann Sebastian Bach hun naam te danken hebben. Voor Thibaut Garcia en Antoine Morinière was het slechts een kwestie van tijd voor ze zich aan dit monument zouden wagen: al meer dan vijftien jaar verkennen de twee gitaristen samen het barokrepertoire in eigen transcripties. Voor dit project transcribeerden ze elk de helft van de variaties én lieten ze zelfs twee identieke gitaren bouwen. Zo versmelten vier handen en twaalf snaren tot één instrument dat een verrassend nieuw licht werpt op Bachs meesterwerk.

2027 marquera les trois cents ans de la naissance de Johann Gottlieb Goldberg, le claveciniste auquel les célèbres Variations Goldberg de Johann Sebastian Bach doivent leur nom. Pour Thibaut Garcia et Antoine Morinière, se mesurer à ce monument n’était qu’une question de temps : depuis plus de quinze ans, les deux guitaristes explorent ensemble le répertoire baroque à travers leurs propres transcriptions. Pour réaliser ce projet, ils se sont partagé les variations, en en transcrivant chacun la moitié. Ils se sont même fait fabriquer deux guitares rigoureusement identiques. Quatre mains et douze cordes fusionnent ainsi en un seul instrument, offrant un éclairage inédit sur le chef-d’œuvre de Bach.

In 2027, it will be exactly three hundred years since the birth of Johann Gottlieb Goldberg, the harpsichordist after whom Johann Sebastian Bach’s famous Goldberg Variations are named. For Thibaut Garcia and Antoine Morinière, it was only a matter of time before they took on this monumental work: for more than fifteen years, the two guitarists have explored the Baroque repertoire together through their own transcriptions. For this project, they each transcribed half of the variations and even commissioned two identical guitars to be built. Four hands and twelve strings thus merge into a single instrument, casting Bach’s masterpiece in a striking new light.
