About this Event
We're excited to be joined by Becca Goodall, a Soil Food Web expert, to dig into what's really going on in our compost & soil.
This is an interactive session, where we will go down into the earth to understand what is happening underneath the surface. We'll be looking through the microscope to identify the microscopic organisms living in our soil and compost, and learning what we can do to improve and protect them.
The day will include:
- Through the microscope - Taking samples of compost and soil from around the garden to see what's happening right here right now. We will cover topics such as how to identify different microorganisms and how they all link together in the soil food web.
- Why No-dig & Composting? - Using our samples to understand no-dig and composting in more detail, seeing with our own eyes what it really is that we are really protecting
- How to maximise biodiversity in our compost and soil. Looking at our current practices in the garden and developing strategies for improvement.
Accessibility:
We aim to create a welcoming, inclusive space at the Forest Farm Peace Garden for everyone. As a community ecotherapy garden, we recognise the site is nature-based, so paths can be uneven and access may vary depending on weather. We do our best to support access through seating, quieter spaces, and a flexible, supportive approach to activities. Everyone is welcome to take part at their own pace, and carers, support workers, and assistance animals are encouraged. If you have any access needs, please get in touch before attending so we can support you as best we can.

Pricing structure
Our tickets are priced on a trust-based system because we never want financial barriers to stand in the way of people attending. If the standard price is a hurdle, please feel free to choose a concession ticket. We do not require proof of benefits, and no questions will be asked at the door.For people in a position to pay a bit more to help support what we do, and keep our events accessible to others, we deeply appreciate it - but if not, there is no pressure.
All proceeds will go towards supporting our free ecotherapy program for people with mental health recovery needs
