As the world of neuroscience expands to study the effects of psychedelics, join us to be in the know.

Our universe is constantly dancing. We exist immersed in an inseparably interconnected web of energetic interactions which scale from the subatomic world to brain oscillations and beyond. Somehow, our beautiful and baffling human consciousness emerges- and is able to create songs and paintings and poetry and memes. How could this be possible?

This talk explores how cutting-edge neuroscience is reimagining the human brain not as a computer, but as a musical instrument that vibrates at specific frequencies. Psychedelics radically change this “brain music”, disrupting rigid rhythms and shifting the mind into rich, complex new harmonies. By expanding the brain’s natural acoustic spectrum, they allow networks that never normally speak to improvise together in a vast, synchronized symphony. This lecture will weave together quantum physics with experiential psychology to explore how creativity can be born from resonance between mind and matter.

Isabel Bermudez is a cognitive neuroscientist specializing in psychoactive substances and their effects on the brain. She earned her B.S. from Carnegie Mellon University and recently completed her M.S. in Psychoactive Pharmaceutical Investigation at UW-Madison School of Ph*rm*cy, the first graduate program dedicated to the scientific study of psychedelic drugs. As an undergraduate, she worked in the Concepts, Actions, and Objects Lab; her current work investigates how psilocybin-assisted physical therapy affects cognitive deficits in people with a history of Traumatic Brain Injury. Isabel brings a wealth of knowledge about consciousness, quantum biology, and all things drug-related; she approaches science as an art, and is excited to share her work with you all.

We'll explore:

  • How could understanding the physics of quantum waves help explain the human mind?
  • How do psychedelics affect brain activity and conscious awareness?
  • What is creativity?
  • How do psychedelics affect creativity?
  • How could subjective experienc emerge from electrochemical activity?

This might be for you if you...

  • Are intrigued by the changing field of neuroscience
  • Are interested in the effects of psychedelics in both the medical field and general use
  • Are curious about groundbreaking developments in the Quantum field
  • Enjoy lecture-based and conversation-focused events of any kind — think Ted Talks in bars, Lectures on Tap, or micro learning meets dinner party
  • Want to switch up your usual weeknight. Why not make it interesting? 🤓
