A guided contemplative walk along the Jersey City waterfront. Twenty cosmic archetypes. One shoreline. Ninety minutes with life in motion.
About this Event

The UNION of Rock and Ocean [TURAO] is a contemplative art system designed by tour host Kamau Zuberi Akabueze :: built from twenty universal archetypes that each hold their own relationship with Rock and Ocean.

On this walk, you will receive an Insight Card —> an archetype to study that you will embody during the tour.

Each archetype in the ongoing story of The UNION of Rock and Ocean carries a principle behavior, a scientific grounding, and a cosmological role :: designed for consideration through the tour and in the location you will be standing.

You will be joined by Rock. Ocean. Gravity. Sun. Moon. Harmony. Chaos. Existence. Potential. And eleven more.

You do not need to have heard of TURAO before. You only need to be willing to move slowly and pay attention to what the water is sharing with the gorgeous Jersey City shore, while looking out on the Manhattan Skyline.

The Format

  • 15-minute pre-walk orientation at the meeting point (Paulus Hook Ferry Landing, under the Colgate Clock)
  • 60-minute guided walk with Insight Card stops along the Jersey City waterfront
  • 15-minute closing reflection circle at the Lone Happy Tree, Morris Canal Park
  • Closing gathering at maman, 70 Hudson Street (coffee and pastry, self-pay)

Total time: 90 minutes of walking, orientation, and reflection, plus the closing gathering at maman = approximately 2 hours

The Route

Paulus Hook Ferry Landing → Colgate Clock → Morris Canal Park (Lone Happy Tree) → maman (70 Hudson Street)

Approximately 1.15 miles of flat, accessible waterfront terrain. All ages welcome.

Your Guide

Kamau Zuberi Akabueze :: creator of TURAO, founder of THE ÅLïEN SCõÖL for Creative Thinking. Twenty-eight years in creative strategy with clients including Nike, American Express, Meta, and NPR. A lifetime spent at the shoreline, translated into a walkable practice.

What To Bring

Comfortable walking shoes. A willingness to slow down. Everything else is already here. Clothes for the weather and accessories for any rain. You may also want to bring a portable seat if you have one.

Capacity

Limited to 8 guests per walk, to preserve the contemplative pace and allow individual attention at each archetype stop.

Walks run rain or shine. (Rain is Archetype 5 — Water. It belongs here.)

About TURAO

TURAO — The UNION of Rock and Ocean — is a contemplative art system in development, currently applied to the Kickstarter Culture Fund. The walking experience is the living form of the work. A 22-card Insight Card deck is in production. A film trailer already exists. Every walk is a preview of something larger, and a complete experience in itself.

The elements belong to everyone, including you.
