The last gig of the festival weekend is here!
The amazing triad of GrooveLine, Loneseome George and Le Chéile 🔥🔥🔥
GrooveLine are a six-piece, style-bending band rooted in funk who blend groove, hip-hop, rock, jazz and trad together to create a captivating – and irresistibly catchy – sound.
The band have supported Kíla at the National Stadium and sold out shows in Dublin (Whelan’s, the Workman’s Club) and Galway’s iconic Róisín Dubh. Their live performances have seriously impressed the likes of Hot Press Magazine, who describe them as having “the precision of Vulfpeck, the coolness of Parliament and the energy of James Brown”. An electric act who perform both Irish and English language songs, their gigs are something to behold: they are infectiously fun, high-octane affairs where there is no other option but to get up, join in the revelry, and dance!
We can assure you that the energy emanating from the stage in the King’s Inn will be explosive. Buckle in.
Lonesome George is led by song-writing duo Joe Campbell-McArdle (guitar and vocals) and Myles McCormack (mandolin and vocals), two friends who started learning traditional music together in their teens and have been playing together ever since. They are joined by Fintan Mulholland, a multi-instrumentalist and active member of internationally touring dance shows, on flute, whistles and vocals. Dermot Moynagh is on bodhrán and percussion, bringing his unique style of accompaniment to the group that has made him one of the most in-demand bodhrán players in Belfast. Finally, the newest member of the band; a traditional song collector and researcher, and much sought-after performer in her own right, Catriona Ní Ghribín is on accordion and vocals.
Their contemporary song-writing in both English and Irish language deals with love, life and revolution; addressing issues as wide-ranging as mental health, the treatment of refugees and the environmental crisis. These ideas are brought to life through a mixture of musical styles; multi-layered riff-led grooves; ethereal & ambient pieces, sometimes with a touch of melancholy; rip-roaring reels and other Irish dance rhythms; and a selection of flavours and styles from various genres interwoven to create a unique sound; changing from song to song, all while remaining rooted in the Irish tradition.
Support on the night comes from Le Chéile, a newly formed trio made up of Cian McGrory (guitar), Phil Acheson (bass), and Josh Sampson (drums), who combine outside influences of funk, dance, afrobeat and jazz fusion to create their unique take on traditional Irish tunes.
