About this Event
The Record Room Presents... "Broken English"
Join us in person for an exclusive film screening of "Broken English" followed by a lively Q&A session with one of the film's two composers Rob Ellis (who, along with his work with Marianne, was a long standing collaborator with PJ Harvey ) hosted by our very own Jonny Ralfe. This is a unique opportunity to watch this new film drama/documentary about & featuring the late great Marianne Faithfull, and an opportunity to ask Rob about his two decade stint working with Marianne in the studio and in performance and his work on "Broken English". The film stars Tilda Swinton and George MacKay as fictional operatives in the "Ministry of Not Forgetting" as they collate information and interview Marianne about her long and storied 60 year career in music and reassess her place as a much maligned and under appreciated figure.
The film is the work of maverick directors Jane Pollard and Iain Forsyth, who directed the much acclaimed fiim "20,000 Days on Earth", a day in the life of Nick Cave who makes a return in this film along with Warren Ellis, Beth Orton, Courtney Love, Suki Waterhouse and Jehnny Beth, performing songs from Marianne's catalogue.
Doors are at 6pm. The film starts at 7pm and runs for an hour and forty minutes, followed by an interval for drinks and then a short Q+A with Rob with an opportunity for questions from the audience.
