About this Event
The Next Chapter: Stories We Carry is a community literacy and creative wellness experience exploring the stories, memories, hopes, and traditions that connect us.
Building on our previous family literacy gathering centered on creating home libraries, this experience invites families to go beyond building their bookshelves and explore the conversations and connections that books can inspire.
Throughout the afternoon, participate in shared reading, creative activities, painting, reflection, and opportunities to discover new books together.
Our Featured Books
This gathering is inspired by three books selected across generations:
Across the Bay by Carlos Aponte
A Comb of Wishes by Lisa Stringfellow
A middle grade story filled with Caribbean folklore, family, grief, wishes, and magic.
These Ghosts Are Family by Maisy Card
An adult novel exploring family history, identity, migration, memory, and the stories carried across generations.
Together, these books invite us to think about where we come from, what we hope for, what stays with us, and what we want to carry forward.
Win the Booked & Connected Collection
One attendee will receive our complete featured book collection:
Across the Bay
A Comb of Wishes
These Ghosts Are Family
One collection. Three generations of storytelling.
Who Should Attend?
Designed for parents, caregivers, educators, families, and adults who believe in the power of books and storytelling to create connection.
Whether you're building a home library, supporting young readers in a classroom or community setting, raising a reader, or simply someone who loves books and meaningful conversation, you're welcome here.
Children ages 8 and older are encouraged to participate alongside their grown ups, but you do not need to attend with a child to participate.
What to Bring
Just bring yourself and/or your family. Art supplies, activity materials, and books will be provided.
Because painting is part of the experience, we recommend wearing clothing that can handle a little creativity.
