About this Event
What happens when you sue the RCMP? Like, what actually happens?
Well, let us tell you, it’s no tea party. From a gruelling discovery process, to fighting about how long the trial should take, to an epic nine-week trial full of Perry Mason moments, The Narwhal and Amber Bracken’s fight to defend press freedom in Canada has opened up more storylines than we’ll ever be able to tell. But we want to try.
Come find out what really happened during our trial, what is at stake in the pending ruling and why the urgent fight for press freedom in Canada is far from over. This discussion, moderated by former CBC Ottawa News anchor Adrian Harewood, will feature Narwhal co-founder and editor-in-chief Carol Linnitt, award-winning photojournalist and current Nieman Fellow Amber Bracken and our lead counsel, lawyer Sean Hern.
The evening will take place in the beautiful theatre at Victoria’s Oak Bay Beach Hotel and feature a small gallery of Amber’s prints from her time reporting in Wet’suwet’en territory, where she was arrested by the RCMP in November 2021, which will be up for auction.
