The Meadow We Weave: The World’s First Seagrass Ceilidh is an unforgettable evening of live music, traditional dance, storytelling, food, science, and community—all woven together in celebration of Casco Bay’s eelgrass meadows and the people working to restore them. Presented by COBALT/Team Zostera, the evening will feature the Zostera Revival Band with caller Alan Furth, the powerful drum, song, and dance traditions of Cipelahq Ehpicik (Thunderbird Women), and Passamaquoddy Language Keeper Dwayne Tomah as our guest emcee. Special Guest includes Geo Soctomah Neptune who will offer some stand-up to give us all a few laughs and rest from the dancing! Guests will also enjoy a special “Taste of the Eelgrass Meadows” experience presented by acclaimed chef and ocean advocate Barton Seaver.
Come prepared to participate! A ceilidh (pronounced KAY-lee) is a joyful community gathering where everyone—experienced dancers and complete beginners alike—is invited onto the floor, with a caller guiding the dances step by step. Throughout the evening, music and movement will be interwoven with stories of seagrass, Passamaquoddy culture, community science, and the extraordinary collective effort underway to regenerate eelgrass in Casco Bay. Expect great food, lively music, dancing, learning, laughter, and meaningful connections—and leave with a deeper sense of how science, culture, and community can come together to restore the places we love.
