About this Event
Birke Bertelsmeier: Krise (Crisis)
Beethoven: String Quartet in E-flat major, Op. 74 “Harp”
Beethoven: String Quartet in B-flat major, Op. 130/133
Our final concert of the series opens with a bang. Composer Birke Bertelsmeier’s Krise (Crisis) begins with a swirling vortex of sound, gradually unfolding to set the stage for one of Beethoven’s most colorful works, the “Harp” quartet, named for its featured use of pizzicato (plucked strings) in the first movement. The cycle concludes with Beethoven’s grandest quartet, his majestic Opus 130, concluding with the famous Große Fuge, a fitting breakthrough into new dimensions at the conclusion of this epic cycle of works.
