WELCOME TO THE LAVENDER MIC GRAND SLAM!
On December 1, 2026 at 7pm, 8 of the top poets from August-November monthly Lavender Mic Poetry Slams will compete head to head for a $500 cash prize and earn the title of the FIRST Lavender Mic Grand Slam Champion! The grand slam will also include:
- A feature performance from The Stinkin’ Geckos from Las Vegas / currently ranked #5 in the NW region.
- A makers market with 6 curated local artists and vendors
- Craft cocktails/mocktails
- Audience giveaways/prizes
- Local author displays

Slam Format & Rules:
- Check-in & Draw Time: 7:00 PM at Townhall Collaborative
- Poets who do not attend the draw will be taking the #1 spot! So get there on time poets!
- The competition will be conducted in 3 rounds.
- Round 1 will be a head to head between the initial 8 poets
- Poets will draw their opponent
- Opponents will compete back to back in the order they drew
- Judges will choose Poet A or Poet B after both poets have finished
- All 5 judges votes will count
- Round 2 + Round 3 will be regular slam rules
- Poets will draw a new order
- Judges will score each poet from 0-10
- Drop the low, drop the high: middle 3 scores are kept
- Rounds 2 + 3 are CUMULATIVE scores.
- The round cuts will be
- Round 1: All 8 poets
- Round 2: Top 4 poets
- Round 3: Top 2 poets
- Poets will randomly draw their performance order at check-in.
- Time Limit: Each poem must be 3 minutes or less, with a 10-second grace period. After 3:10, time penalties will apply:
- 3:10-3:20 = 0.5-point deduction
- 3:20-3:30 = 1-point deduction
- 4+ = Disqualification for the round
- Your time starts as soon as you speak into the mic or engage with the audience
- No props, costumes, or musical accompaniment—the power is in your words and performance.
- Each poem must be original and written by the performing poet.
- Random Judges will be selected in the audience. Judges will score poets on content, performance, and overall impact using A or B for the first round and on a scale of 0.0 to 10.0 (highest and lowest scores dropped, middle three added) for the final 2 rounds.
- If there is a tie for the final round, a 1 minute sudden-death round may be implemented.

Q. Can I sign up as a poet to compete in The Grand Slam?
A. NO. The Grand Slam is comprised of the top 8 qualifying poets from August-November slams
Q. Is the slam the same thing as an open mic?
A. NO. A poetry slam is a competition where poets compete for a cash prize.
Q. What else can we expect at the Grand Slam?
A. Featured Poets, Makers Market, Craft cocktails/mocktails, Audience giveaways and prizes
Q. What is the ticket price?
A. Early bird tickets (through 11/1) are $20. Any tickets AFTER 11/1 are $25
Q. Do you donate to the same charity every month?
A. NO. We vary our donations to support many organizations in the Denver/Colorado community. We are always open to new charities to donate to!
Q. Are there any age limits?
A. NO! Bring your daughter, bring your grandpa. We welcome EVERYONE!
