About this Event
The Last Gatekeeper is an Afro-futurist, post-apocalyptic, Black Queer multimedia musical theatre experience combining music, projections, and performance.
In a world destroyed by totalitarian rule, Soku, a young Black Queer descendant of West African Gatekeepers, must confront his lineage, embrace his full self, his spiritual calling, and fulfill a prophecy that could ignite a revolution.
This staged reading invites the audience into a world of ritual, music, and ancestral storytelling while exploring resilience, liberation, spirituality, and the power of Black Queer people to help restore balance during times of crisis.
Following the presentation, Patrick L. Riley will moderate a community conversation with Dr. John-Martin Green of The Gatekeepers Collective and Antoine Craigwell of DBGM, exploring the work’s spiritual and cultural themes, creative process, and the continued development of its immersive theatrical world.
