About this Event
Leeds pianist, composer and bandleader Jamil Sheriff is a celebrated figure on the UK jazz scene, with a career spanning ovet 20 years. Known for his distinctive musical voice, Jamil has written and led music for a wide range of line-ups.
For this project, Jamil brings together an outstanding line-up to explore the music of Herbie Hancock — from his groundbreaking work with Miles Davis and classic acoustic recordings to his deep funk and groove-based music, film scores and adventurous collaborations across the decades.
Jamil is joined by one of the UKs grooviest, Caroline Boaden (drums), known for her work across jazz and contemporary music; Joel Stedman (woodwinds & percussion), a member of Ancient Infinity Orchestra and collaborator with Jasmine Myra; and Sam Quintana (bass), leader of Wandering Monster and a familiar face on the Leeds jazz scene.
Expect a wide-ranging set of Hancock’s music, with deep grooves, adventurous improvisation and a few special guests along the way.
Doors open at 7pm. Over 18's only.
