7.00 — 8.30pm
@form_i_c_a, Unit 5 Lymore Gardens, BA2 1AQ
Join us for a talk by Sir Christopher Frayling in which he will be examining the images of real-life visual artists in Hollywood films, since the arrival of the sound era—and how they have helped to frame the public understanding of art history.
Sir Christopher Frayling is the former Rector of the Royal College of Art, the only wholly postgraduate university institution of art and design in the world, and is now Professor Emeritus of Cultural History there. In addition, he is the former Chairman of Arts Council England, the largest funding body for the arts in the UK; he was the longest-serving Trustee of the Victoria and Albert Museum; he was Chairman of the Royal Mint Advisory Committee, which selects the designs for new coins; Chairman of the UK Design Council; and an 1851 Royal Commissioner. He was until recently a Distinguished Professor at the University of Lancaster and Chancellor of Arts University Bournemouth.
Christopher is well-known as an historian, a critic and an award-winning broadcaster on radio and television. He has published thirty books and numerous articles and exhibition catalogues on contemporary and modern art, design, film and the history of ideas. His most recent book, 'The Hollywood History of Art', was published in 2025. In the year 2000, he was knighted for ‘services to art and design education’.
