Gather close and celebrate the season with us!A Deer Aglow with Holiday Light
Together we'll paint a Coastal Native Art deer adorned with whimsical holiday lights, a design created especially for this gathering and offered only once. You'll be guided by our beloved formline artist and Tlingit tribal member Wéidaaká Yóodóohaa (Bill Pfeifer, Jr.).
In Tlingit culture, the deer (g̲uwakaan) is a symbol of peace, calm, and reconciliation, which makes it a fitting companion for the season of peace and giving. As you paint, Bill will share stories of the deer from his tribe's oral histories, so every brushstroke carries a little of the living tradition behind it.
This is our final Native Art painting session of 2026, as Bill steps away to welcome and nurture a new member of his family.
It is a one-of-a-kind afternoon, and the Native Art sessions will be paused for an indefinite time after this.
What to Expect
Learn and create: Practice formline technique, ask Bill your questions, and honor an ancient art form that is very much alive.
Savor the season: Enjoy hors d'oeuvres and regional beverages that blend traditional Tlingit flavors with modern holiday twists.
Come as you are: No experience needed, just a willingness to explore your creativity.
Discover a visual language: Step into the artistry of the Native peoples of the Northwest Coast of North America.
Take Home a Treasure
You'll leave with your own hand-painted cedar plank, a keepsake to cherish or a heartfelt gift for someone you love.
