LEANIE KALEIDO RETURNS TO THE LIVE SCENE WITH KARAMELIEN –AND A NEW RELEASE ON CD
South east based singer-songwriter Léanie Kaleido and long-time friend and musical companion Mark Foster aka KARAMELIEN are returning to the live circuit after a two-year break from gigging.Léanie is known for her unique, quintessentially English style of piano/folk/alt pop, writing at the piano or guitar/tenor guitar, according to her mood. Her lyrics have been described in the press as ‘distinctive, darkly humorous and emotionally raw’. Mark Foster brings his flavour of lo-fi dream-pop meets alt-country grit, echoing Sparklehorse’s melancholy, Sonic Youth’s distortion, and the dreamy left-field textures of Mazzy Star and The Sugarcubes.They will be joined on the night by drummer and percussionist Alex Cooper. Léanie has released three solo albums to date and, more recently, a further LP of self-penned songs with KARAMELIEN. This album, Living With The Moon, has received great reviews and worldwide airplay. During the two-year break from playing live, Léanie has been holed up in her studio, writing and recording new material. She has worked with Swedish producer Jonatan Backelie to co-write a couple of exciting new singles: Dear Seizure, which reflects on her own experience with epilepsy; and Worrygami, a chilled out ambient track released this August and featuring her teenage son, Arthur on Rhodes piano. During this time, she also signed to Speegra Publishing, and a compilation CD of some of her best tracks, called ‘All The Things I’m Made Of’ is being released through Wrokdown Records. So, she’s been a busy girl.But now KARAMELIEN are back and playing together again, and excited to play at The Grey Lady in Tunbridge Wells on Sunday 11th October, which will also mark the release of the new ‘best of’ CD. FUN FACTS: Léanie took her surname from the track Kaleidoscope, by her favourite band, RIDE. She changed it by deed poll in her teens! She has since worked with Mark Gardener of RIDE, who produced her third album, How To Weigh A Whale Without A Scale.Léanie is the daughter of the late Top Topham, blues guitarist and original lead guitarist with seminal R&B legends The Yardbirds. At the grand age of nearly 56, Léanie can still do the splits (both ways!). She is always more than happy to demonstrate this!
