Join the Local History and Genealogy Department for another installment in their Gilded Gulf series! The Biloxi Herald was a biweekly periodical that connected Coast residents with news and trends of the period, beginning with its first publication in October 1884. For the modern audience, it becomes a historical documentation of our past, of how a few sleepy fishing and lumber villages became the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Our special guest, Kat Bergeron, local journalist and history enthusiast, spent her long Sun Herald career combing the early Herald microfilm to find long-forgotten stories. Join us for a presentation on the early years of the newspaper, her research reminisces, and a demonstration of our new digital newspaper resource!
