No presentations. No formal speeches. Just a quick 15-minute look around, a chance to meet us, swap ideas and imagine what The Fern could become.

You might remember the building as Fernhealth Play. WHCE has now taken on the space, and it’s becoming ‘The Fern’ a new hireable youth and community space right in the heart of West Howe.
Before we open more widely, we’d love to invite the people who already make our community brilliant: you!
Whether you’re from a school, youth group, charity, community organisation or local service, come and have a nosey, meet the team, hear our plans and see what’s possible.
The Fern isn’t just another building to hire. It’s a space for ideas, creativity, activities, partnerships and trying new things. We don’t have all the answers (and we don’t want to!). We want the space to grow with the people who use it.
You’ll find:
- Flexible spaces for groups, workshops and activities
- A dedicated Sensory Room
- Large outdoor area
- Kitchen facilities
- Hireable office space
- Plenty of parking
- Easy bus access
Got an idea but not ready to hire? We’d still love to hear it! We’re keen to build relationships with local organisations and explore activities, services, projects and funding opportunities together.
There’s no obligation to hire — we’d simply love to share this awesome space with you and hear what you think.

Have you heard of the Better Connected Networking Group? It’s a chance for local organisations to share strengths, build connections and make West Howe even better. The group meets every few months.

Help Young People Leave Their Mark
Could you help the young people you work with shape The Fern?
We’re inviting students and young people in our community to get involved from the very beginning through our launch competitions:
- Design a Fern T-shirt
- Design our welcome sign
There’s an awesome prize up for grabs, and the winning designs could become part of The Fern for everyone to see!
When you visit, find out how you can take these opportunities back to the young people you work with, encourage their ideas and help them have a real say in shaping their community space.
